Case Study: Fireplace Surround - Cultured Stone
Before and After
Working for a General Contractor
who built the house extension.
Set up wire mesh and a scratch coat.
Install the cultured stone.
Protect the newly installed floor.
The wall is prepared with cement board on the wall.
The floor is protected with paper, paper-board and a canvas drop sheet.
We attached galvanized steel wire mesh to hold the scratch coat.
The Scratch Coat
We used a High-Bond S-Type cement.
Completed scratch coat
We let this cure for 48 hours, more than required.
You can see black granite around the fireplace opening.
Dry-fitting the stones
Here we assemble the stones to invite customer feedback.
While the scratch coat cures, the client can get involved in stone placement.
