Case Study: Brick-to-Stone Window Sill Replacement
Before and After
The Assignment:
The brick window sill was damaged, needed replacement.
A rocked-face limestone sill was desired.
The Underlying Problem:
The masonry and bricks on the top row had cracks letting water in.
Sills made of bricks are inherently weak, and should be stone.
The Problem: A Sill made of Brick
Clearly, there are broken bricks.
With a canvas dropsheet to protect the roof,
we chiseled away the brick sill.
The Internal Damage: None.
Fortunately there was no rotted wood behind the bricks.
We then cut the sills to fit the opening perfectly, evenly.
Cement Base for Sill
We set a base of cement for spacing and the angle we wanted.
Dry Fitting the Stone Sills
After cutting we fit the stones in place.
